All hands toward something greatER

What a day. What a celebration. What a sense of elation and relief, for at least half of the country. What a sense of hope and eagerness for what comes next.

And while many cling to the era that has been ushered away, with desperation and anger and fear, time still marches on.

In their minds, just as in each of our minds, they are fighting for what is right. This is not a simple case of villains vs. heros, even if we all would like to place those labels and call it a day.

Most of us — perhaps all of us — have been demonized by the “other side”. Names are called. Insults are hurled. Criticisms flow endlessly, charring everything in their path like molten lava.

Perhaps this step is a necessary one. Perhaps the anger and sadness, juxtaposed with cheering and joy, must be poured out first in all their intensity, swirling together in movement toward something new that will come whatever our feelings toward it.

Something Great. GreatER. Not back to a rose-colored vision of what we used to be, glossing over any inconvenient or messy details, but creating a new vision for something greater than what we have known so far.

That future is in our hands. Rugged, work-work hands. Energetic and capable hands. Frail and weak hands. Those of all of the nation, together, for the work that comes next.
